The 34th Vancouver Guides sang for senior residents in Wesbrook Village. It was a great success, with a large number of Guides attending. The residents and staff were pleased to listen and watch some action songs. They even shared stories about their own experiences as girls and/or leaders in Guiding!
We celebrated the Guiding year this week. While most units have a few more meetings, a few have already finished. It's the perfect time to get together and honour the girls who are flying up to a new branch. And have a party!
The year-end celebration included a BBQ and bake sale, along with carnival games. The Sparks and Brownies led off the ceremonies, followed by the Guides, Pathfinders and Rangers. Family and friends watched as the girls walked across the stage and received their certificates and awards. Some 3rd year Guides earned their Lady Baden-Powell awards, 3rd year Pathfinders earned their Canada Cords, and the Rangers earned their Chief Commissioner's awards.
Each year, our District recognizes a girl from each branch to receive the Priscilla Shepley Camping Award. Congratulations to Gwen S., Kayla I., Sydney M. and Miranda C.
We also recognized girls who exemplify the values and goals of each branch. Congratulations to:
Lily H. and Robyn M. for "Being a Friend"
Jaime N., Libby D., Paige H. and Maggie E. for "Lending a Hand"
Katie B., Franziska Z. and Ashley K. for "Being Prepared"
Erin G. and Joyce K. for "Getting Organized"
Eleanor P. and Ariel M for "Being a Leader"
To honour the legacy of late 35th Guides leader Amy Hurn, we presented the annual Amy Hurn Camping Bursary to Rosalie S. This award recognizes a girl for being a keen camper and showing the spirit of outdoor adventure.
In addition, we had some special "thank you" awards for adult volunteers who helped bring special opportunities to the girls this year.
It's hard to believe that we are starting to wind down another Guiding year! Many units still have meetings and camps in May and June, while a few groups have already closed.
We would like to invite you to our annual family event! This is an opportunity to meet up with friends, celebrate a fun year, play carnival games, and munch food at the BBQ. It's also our chance to celebrate the girls who are flying up to a new branch (Sparks to Brownies, Brownies to Guides, Guides to Pathfinders, and Pathfinders to Rangers). We have a few girl awards to present as well.
Please join us on Monday from 5:30 to 7:30 pm
at St. Philips's (3737 West 27th Avenue near Highbury).
We encourage you to pre-order food to ensure that we have enough to meet demand:
Last week, the 12th Sparks had tons of fun on their photo scavenger hunt. The girls were split into teams and given lists that included the letter "s", a mailbox, flowers, and getting the whole team on a slide. Then they scoured the neighbourhood on a sunny evening, taking photo evidence as they completed each challenge. Look what a great time they had!
We're excited to get outside, have fun, make friends, and try new things!
