Pathfinders and Rangers channeled their cooking skills at the annual Iron Chef event on Deas Island. Girls came from all over West Coast Area to compete in this unique competition that challenges their planning, cooking, problem-solving, and teamwork skills. Step 1: Set up your temporary kitchen, look at the ingredient list, and start planning 3 courses. Step 2: Present your food bank donations, then go to the round robin ingredient selection. Each patrol picks one item at a time. Some other group took your key ingredient? Choose a substitute! Thinking on your feet is key for this part. Step 3: Get cooking!! When the whistle blows, it's time to plate your dish – and presentation counts. This happens 3 times: appetizer, main course, and dessert. Step 4: While you clean up and prepare the next course, the judges are hard at work! They taste everything, check for secret ingredients (an item that starts with "Arrrr"), and read the creative descriptions. Step 5: Scores are tallied and prizes awarded – for best teamwork, cleanest kitchen, picture perfect presentation, best appetizer, and so on. All our teams did great, and our "Ranger" group (with both Rangers and Pathfinders) took home the "Culinary Supremacy" award this year! Thanks to these wonderful guiders who organized the event.
