We are passionate about getting youth outside, from neighbourhood and nature walks during weekly meetings to sleepovers and camps. These experiences build lifelong skills and memories.
Sparks get the chance to sleep in a tent indoors; later in the year, they can attend a weekend cabin camp. Embers enjoy sleepovers and cabin camps, sometimes also trying out tents. By Guides, they are learning to camp in tents and cook outside. Pathfinders and Rangers will extend these skills, adding in hiking, canoeing, and other adventures.
Why send your child to camp? Recent research from the University of Waterloo finds that camp gives kids:
• improved social skills
• a sense of belonging, pride, & self esteem
• the chance to face challenges & take risks (safely)
• personal connections with nature & the environment
• time to live simply and focus on core values
• improved attitudes toward being active
Make sure your child can stay dry and warm - and can carry their own gear - and they'll have a great time!
