Inspired by leader Angela's classic camp blanket, the girls got busy sewing their accumulated crests onto scarves and camp blankets. Most of the girls started their camp blankets for the first time, thanks to basic fleece blankets provided by the leaders.
Even the snack was sewing-themed: string licorice with fruit loops, so the girls could practice "threading" needles"!
If your daughter would like to create a camp blanket or poncho, it's pretty easy. Either start with a pre-made fleece blanket or poncho - from a dollar store, IKEA, Guide Store, or Scout shop - or make your own. Choose a plain colour so the crests stand out; simple patterns will get covered up too. Blanket stitch can be used to finish the edges. You can even turn your blanket into a poncho by making a slit in the centre and sewing around the edges.
What do you put on a camp blanket (or poncho)? All those fun crests that you get at camp, earn doing a challenge, or trade with someone else. Earned badges go on your badge sash - but you can always put your entire badge sash on a blanket once you fly up to the next branch of Guiding. All those crests make your blanket unique, full of memories - and warm!
