While the beach was fairly clean, the nearby park definitely needed some attention. Girls and leaders from 5 units, plus friends from Kits-Fairview District, helped us remove about 25 pounds of trash, including 377 cigarette butts (from a non-smoking beach?!), 212 food wrappers, 143 pieces of plastic and foam, and 25 plastic bags.
Our strangest finds? A whole chair – with different groups finding pieces all over the beach – plus odds and ends like a plastic dinosaur tail, an entire cordless phone with charger base, and a BBQ.
All participants will be receiving these nifty crests.
Some girls were away that weekend, but they did their own beach cleanup as well, managing to pick up tires, pipes, and fishing gear washed up on their local beach! |
